Hi There! I’m Kaley. The owner/operator/writer of The Prevailing Parent. 🙂
I have procrastinated writing this “About Me” post for over a year now. Truthfully, I have a hard time finding the words because for me part of becoming a parent was reinventing myself. I really thought that when I had kids I could be exactly the same person and not miss a beat on doing all the things I loved. I’m a very stubborn person, so believe me when I say I tried. I don’t know where the quote originated but someone once told me that “he who resists change is broken by it”. So for me becoming a parent also coincided with breaking a mold that had been hardening for the past 26 years. My post “The Incredibly Difficult Thing About Being A Parent” touches more on this if you’re interested.
So about me…well on the outside you’d see that I am a short petite person in my early 30’s, constantly moving, ever multi-tasking. If I am still, there’s most likely a fresh cup of coffee to blame or a moment of savoring the outdoors (best form of therapy in my opinion). I have a bit of patience, a bit of flash anger, and a stash of chocolate bars that help balance the two. I’m a crafty person but not just scrapbooking. No medium is off limits, in fact I seek out the challenge of learning something new from cars, to woodworking, to bread-making. In this way I consider myself a bit of a “hobby junkie”. I have a DIY attitude that probably far exceeds “normal” (probably stubbornness in disguise) and for this I realize that days are extremely short blocks of time. Unsurprisingly then I love long summer days, enjoy the change of the seasons but despise the cold (and by cold I mean anything under
Then, you already know I’m a mom. I really do love being a mom, my kids amaze me and they teach me a lot. I stay home with them and am forever grateful and happy to be able to do so. I am also a wife, in fact I’m one of those who believes in being 51% wife and 49% mom. Granted 90% of my day is still consumed by my kids but I strive to live by example, showing them a strong, positive, loving relationship that will make them want to get married someday and work hard to stay there.
I am far from perfect but I embrace learning, try to keep an open mind, and have humbly learned to accept change. If you follow this blog then you’ll probably see my changes as they happen both in aspects connected to my daily life and in myself.
Lastly, I love to hear about my readers. What brought you to this blog? What do you relate to? Who are you? What are your kids like? I hope you’ll stick around, check back often, and follow us on Facebook.
Thanks for visiting!
