Stepping Stones To Off Grid Living
Many who know us probably wouldn’t be surprised if we moved off-grid. Much of the past five years of our life has been an unintentional but ‘slowly and surely’ movement in that direction. If you search this blog you’ll find our experiences over these years with local and bulk food sourcing, canning, grinding our own flour, downsizing, spring vs tap water, and DIY everything. Outside of this blog my husband and I can often be found researching and chatting about various topics like how artificial lights affect your internal clock and cordwood home construction. Plus, I could dream all day about having a huge garden AND a root cellar, swoon. What some see as “crazy” we see as a lesson in learning, an exercise in creativity, and a challenge that could be both fun and rewarding.
Could we dive in tomorrow? Ehhh, maybe once all the kids are out of diapers and sleeping through the night (tell me that DOES happen some day right??). So for now we’re at the baby-steps (pun-intended) of the process; welcoming bouts of intrigue and daydreaming on the topic. Which is why I loved reading the article by Simply Self Storage: Living Off Grid, Your Guide to Self-Sufficient Living. A clear, easy to read and follow detail of what it means to live off grid, the different forms, factors and resources to consider, and (my favorite part) the cost projections. With permission from Simply Self Storage, below I’ve shared their infographic that neatly summarizes their article. Check it out!
What do you think….could you live off grid? I’m thinking a mix of “modern off-grid” and “half on half off”, how about you?
